Iglu Mascot
Iglu, Mascot is a $60 million 437 bed, high-quality student accommodation facility which is affordable and close to public transport in Mascot. The building envelope is a 7-storey building on one side with the volume within the site rising to 12 storeys on the other side.
The structural design includes a carefully coordinated structural grid chosen to optimise the post-tensioned flat plate design and to allow slender columns to fall within party walls to provide maximum amenity within residential spaces. A long cantilevers at the façade coupled with a long back-span was utilised on this project to minimise the number of columns and piled foundations whilst providing support to the heavy precast façade. Jump-formed reinforced concrete cores located at each end of the building provide lateral stability to the structure.
