Christoph Ingenhoven, with whom we had delivered 1 Bligh Street and recently assisted with his bid for the Brookfield redevelopment of Wynyard Station, again sought enstruct's involvement in this very challenging project. The competition brief required a redevelopment of the existing 1970's office tower, adding some 40,000sqm of floor space to deliver an overall floor space of some 90,000sqm. This was achieved by extending the existing reinforced concrete building (the 9th tallest concrete building in the world at the time of its construction) to the north. The form of this extension was significant constrained by overshadowing requirements for the Botanical Gardens to the east. A key part of the bid was to resolve a structural solution with efficiently upgraded the existing building structure to cater for the loads generated by the building extension. The competition submission detailed this efficient solution and also carefully addressed construction methodology. By any standards this competition required significant design development - enstruct working closely with the architect both in their Dusseldorf office and via their associate Architectus in Sydney.
