Vivid, Legacy of Landscape

Client: S.H.F.A.
Architect: Architectus
Status: Complete

For VIVID Sydney 2015, enstruct was invited to design a large cantilevered structure to support a 4m sandstone cube to be hung over a public staircase in Mill Lane, The Rocks. The installation, entitled 'Legacy of Landscape', is constructed using aluminium tubing, a sandstone canvas with LED backlighting to mimic the look of a large sandstone cube floating 5 metres in the air. The structure was difficult to design due to a number of constraining factors including, high wind loads at the location, not being able to use the adjacent heritage listed building for support and also hanging such a heavy structure including the rigging and truss assembly from an existing slender steel structure.
