Sydney Harbour Pontoon

Client: Sydney Harbour Surf Club
Architect: enstruct
Status: Afloat

Sydney Harbour has always been a great recreational venue for craft of all types, however, accessing the harbour is a challenge.

Most recently the number of ocean skis / kayaks is exploding - providing their masters a great opportunity to explore one of the planet's greatest waterways and at the same time work on their fitness levels. Our client Sydney Harbour Surf Club approached enstruct with a view to designing a pontoon which could house some 50 skis and provide ready access to Sydney Harbour for its growing number of club members. The pontoon is a lightweight steel tubular frame, supported by two 12 metre long 1.2 m diameter steel floatation tubes, and clad with spotted gum panelling. The craft was prefabricated by Synergy Engineering at Somersby, trucked in pieces to Whitebay Marina, where it was reassembled and launched, before being towed to its mooring at Rosebay Marina.

At the recent launch at Rose Bay Marina, Sydney Harbour Surf Club founder, Luke Horder, praised enstruct for their proactive role as naval architect, structural engineer and project manager, promising the prospect of a fleet of craft over the next few years.
