Bates Smart invited enstruct to assist in a design competition proposal for a landmark residential building adjacent to Hyde Park Sydney. 130 Elizabeth St comprises of 36 floors of residential apartments and an additional 8 basement car parking levels below ground floor. enstruct has been directly involved in the design competition for 130 Elizabeth St in the scheming of floor plate design, lateral structure and retention system. The structural system consists of conventional post tensioned concrete floor plates; concrete columns are integrated into the dividing apartment walls, which was a critical planning parameter. The small number of lifts that service the 36 floors rendered a traditional concrete core incapable of laterally supporting such a slender building, as such a shear wall and outrigger column was utilised to assist the lateral structure in resisting high wind loads.
