Bathurst Hospital

Client: Health Infrastructure
Architect: N/A
Status: Complete

As part of the redevelopment of Bathurst Hospital, the original heritage wing and clock tower have been refurbished and recommissioned. A grand old two storey building of masonry walls and timber floors this structure has overlooked the city of Bathurst for well over a century. As part of the refurbishment this building was upgraded to meet current seismic and wind codes. This building type being typically quite susceptible to seismic loading. A full dynamic spectral analysis was carried out and new structure was introduced to reinforce the diaphragm action of the floors, their connection into the walls and the capacity of the masonry shear walls. The proposed works were well in excess of budget, and our role was to peer review the engineering design and propose cost saving measures.
