As part of the redevelopment of Pitt Street Mall, one of the busiest shopping precincts in the world, Sydney City Council plan to install a novel lighting arrangement to provide both statutory and decorative lighting. Three metre long vertical perspex tubes spaced at approximately seven metre centres will house three LED strips and a base down light. The LED strips will be programmed to provide lighting shows. Equally novel is the cable system used to support the lights. Two horizontal thin stressed cables running the full length of the mall support the top and bottom of the lighting tube. These cables are anchored back to the adjacent buildings. The result is an almost invisible support arrangement.
