Urbanest, North Terrace
With some 300,000 foreign students currently enrolled at Australian Universities, their accommodation has become a significant challenge. On this prominent Adelaide site, Urbanest developed two residential towers, containing some 488 single accommodation units. Each unit contains a separate ensuite, kitchenette and study area - clusters of six units share a common lounge and kitchen. Ground level combines retail tenancies and building lobby, with level 1 incorporating communal multi use spaces facing North Terrace and Bank Street. The twin twenty storey towers contain post tensioned flat plates supported on load bearing precast concrete walls. Considerable efficiencies in terms of programme, cost and planning were achieved using this compact structural arrangement.
