Hillsong Church

Client: Hillsong Church
Architect: Architectus
Status: Complete

Hillsong Church made plans for a new centre in Rosebery, south of the Sydney CBD. The proposed development contained a 2700 seat auditorium, a 10,000 square metre office building and some 700 below ground car parks, as well as a 5,000 square metre park. The engineering focus was firstly on developing a water tight basement construction, given the local water table and sandy soil profile; and secondly, on engineering the long span auditorium steel frame roof. The multi functional nature of the auditorium required the roof structure to provide flexible access and support for heavy rigging, lighting loads and a significant mass of acoustic isolation. Another consideration was establishing a grid which minimises the transfer of columns from the auditorium through the car park below.
