Bondi Tornado

Client: Jarrod Taylor
Architect: Jarrod Taylor
Status: Complete

Sculptures by the Sea has become an important part of the Sydney cultural landscape. This annual event showcases a wide range of artistic works along the very dramatic cliff walk between Bondi and Tamarrama beaches. Exhibits range in both form and size. Artist, sculptor and scaffolder Jarrod Taylor has been a major contributor to the event of the past two years. His 'Wave' sculpture won the top award at the 2005 event, while his 2006 effort 'Tornado' is a tour de force. Standing some fifteen metres high, its welded steel frame, clad with scaffolding tubes, dominated the windswept headland. Structural detailing was developed to simplify the fabrication and installation for Jarod and his crew. Tornado was received with great acclaim. Its evolution and realisation have been thetopic of an ABC documentary.
