Ivy, 330 George Street

Client: Merivale
Architect: Woods Bagot
Status: Complete

Just outside the George St exit from Wynyard station, the IVY has been sculpted to create highly functional spaces with iconic appearance that will be unique in the city environment.  Exposed structural elements play a significant role in the building's architecture, including a 540 degree concrete spiral stair and numerous exposed concrete soffits. Heritage issues were also a priority with the retention of an existing trachyte facade along George Street, retention of the Palings Lane and construction adjacent to the Tank Stream. This central CBD site presented numerous challenges in the retention of perimeter historic buildings, limited construction access, and the general complexity of the building form, including an acoustically isolated roof top swimming pool suspended over a long span ballroom.
