The existing licensed premises in Kings Cross were struggling to keep up with the growing band of Swan's supporters. Various preceding refurbishments of the multilevel masonry terraces had generated a cramped and haphazard planning - unable to cope with the band of home game supporters who would troop back to celebrate another Swans victory. The refurbishment consisted of a complete rebranding and planning of the building. Key aspects of architecture include the introduction of light, natural ventilation and large open plan spaces. From an engineering viewpoint, refurbishment is about rearranging and reinforcing existing structure, while in the case of the Swans Club there was the additional challenge that the building was occupied throughout construction.
