Yennora Wool Stores

Client: Stockland Corporation
Architect: MNIA Architects
Status: Complete

The Woolstore at Yennora in Sydney covers an expansive area of some 120,000 square metres with an eaves height of only 5 metres as set by the limitation on stacking of wool bales. Modern distribution warehouses typically house racking systems requiring a minimum 9 metre eaves height and ground slabs capable of supporting their loads. Various options were studied to upgrade a portion of the building. A cost effective method was developed to retain the existing roof structure and jack the roof some four metres in three 20,000 square metre sections. The existing columns were strengthened and extended during the hydraulic jacking operation. The floor slab was upgraded by placing a new post tensioned slab over the existing ground slab.
