2 Mountain St, Ultimo
A three storey masonry warehouse built circa 1900 with fourteen foot high ceilings and an internal timber frame was restored / refurbished as a commercial office building. Considerable efforts, in concert with both the project and heritage architects, were made to retain the existing building fabric and structure and detail clean connections with new works. An additional floor with external balconies was constructed to take advantage of view over the precinct. Certification of the building structure to meet current codes required an assessment of the current condition and capacity of the original building structure, most particularly the ironbark columns and their foundations and the lime mortar masonry façade which involved insitu testing of the various materials and their condition.
