Mount St Construction

27.02.2017
Client: Dexus / Laing O’Rourke
Architect: SOM/Architectus

The construction of this 37 storey commercial office tower is currently underway.  Excavation of the 6 storey basement carpark through tough Sydney sandstone in a highly confined site is nearing completion. Reinforced concrete pad footings and post-tensioned floor plates will then proceed in parallel with the primary core wall jumpform construction. The building lateral system is comprised of an offset core and a unique steel mega-brace. The offset core is supported on a rock shelf 4 levels above the bottom level basement, allowing construction of core walls to be undertaken ahead of the remaining floor plate. The construction of this landmark building will be accelerated through the use of concrete filled steel tubes which will allow Laing O'Rourke to jumpstart from Basement 1 to Level 2. The highly complex steelwork at the lower levels allows construction of the typical floors to commence before basement construction is finalised. The steel mega brace will provide a distinctive Architectural feature whilst celebrating an intricate display of ingenuity.
